Scenic Routes...
Life Publications named the Red River Gorge Scenic Byway as one of the nation’s Top 15 most scenic drives. Strict standards are required to meet the qualifications for a road to be designated a “Kentucky Scenic Byway”. Only three routes in the entire state of Kentucky have been able to meet the additional stringent requirements to receive the honorable designation as a “National Scenic Byway”. The Red River Gorge Scenic Byway is one of those honorable three.
This 46 mile Byway is a journey through a magnificent natural wonderland in the Daniel Boone National Forest. In addition to its designation as a National Scenic Byway, the Red River Gorge also has the rare designation as a “National Natural Landmark”. Sculpted by wind and water for over 70 million years, visitors will be amazed at the awesome arches and breathtaking sandstone cliffs that are visible along the route. Additionally, superb sites for rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, camping and hiking offer adventurers and thrill seekers alike amazing opportunities for enjoyment. The Red River Gorge Scenic Byway will introduce you to one of America’s most unique natural wonders.
